After School Programs

One of the greatest programs we have at Lighthouse is our After School program! Around 60-100 kids come to our facilities each day. We not only help them on thier homework - we teach computers, writing, mathematics, and much more. We have facilities that accomadate a diverse atmosphere: a full computer lab loaded with educational software/games, 3 classrooms, a music lab, a video game room, and a playground with a basketball court, swings, jumping gym and other various equipment. We put our most of our resources into our program - we give away candy, snacks and prizes EVERYDAY to these young kids. It also helps keep them off these dangerous streets here in Watts. We hope to expand this program in the very near future to encompass a charter school (explanation on the right). We are consistently looking for people to come and help our kids after school. Please inquire with us if interested.

Many gangs are in the area. Grape Street (where we are located) is the birthplace of a "famous" gang of Los Angeles. We work with many groups of young boys and teach them to stay off the streets. We have experienced a personal cost to gang violence ourselves and are doing all we can to keep kids off these streets. We have done this from setting up peer-networks to praying and fasting for 40-day incraments; both of which we have seen a decrease in gang violence. We also are planning a Boy's Ranch (see right) to get boy's outside the city and learn valuable skills for thier future.

Programs in the Making*

Charter School

We would love to start a Charter School here in the heart of Watts! Since so many kids are coming to our after school programs - coupled with the fact that parents have been asking us to start a school - we began to imagine the possibilities! We have some of the poorest educational facilities in California. We want to change that. WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you partner with us - the goal of helping inner-city children obtain a positive education will be within our grasp!

Please look at our donation information to contribute.

Boy's Ranch

Since gang violence has been one of the highest in Los Angeles County, we have felt the need for a long time now to take young men out of this unconventional environment and to a place where they can learn exceptional skills to improve thier future. Boys would learn not only about standard educational areas of study, but also: wilderness skills, mechanic skills, construction skills, spiritual skills and so much more! Again, we need YOUR HELP to make this possible. Please look at our donation information to contribute.

C.O.W. stands for Computers On Wheels. They are converted school busses that have computers and musical equipment in them. Through the COW we can reach many students right outside their door.  Parents often come and learn with their children.

Our program is unique and effective.  We drive these busses to distant neighborhoods in order to expand our presence to people we need to minister to. Kids just love the COW and we do to.
